TUI says crisis will drive digitalisation, non-profitable activities could be sold
TUI AG, the German tour operator that also has three cruise brands in its portfolio, says the current crisis will drive further digitalisation of its business. The group’s cruise operations that comprise the fully owned Marella Cruises unit in the UK and 50% stake in TUI Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd, reported a sharp weakening of results in the three months to 31 March. During the 11-day refit of TUI Mein Schiff 4 in Marseille, interior outfitter Trimline was responsible for the transformation of two restaurants, a bar and a lounge. TUI AG announced that has reached an agreement today to contribute its 100% subsidiary Hapag-Lloyd Cruises into TUI Cruises, a 50:50 joint venture owned by TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises, valuing it at 1.2 billion euro on a debt and cash free basis, with an expected net cash consideration of approximately 700 million euro, according to a statement. During a 7-day refit in Marseille, Trimline’s team carried out a complete upgrade to the speciality restaurant La Spezia onboard TUI Cruises GmbH’s Mein Schiff Herz, previously known as Mein Schiff 2.
