Venezuelan patrol boat sinks following collision with RCGS Resolute

The 146-berth RCGS ResoluteA Venezuelan Coast Guard patrol boat capsized and sank following a collision with a Portuguese-flagged cruise ship in international waters in the early morning hours (local time) of Monday, March 30. The collision between the unnamed patrol boat and RCGS Resolute, a vessel owned by Canada-based One Ocean Expeditions, occurred around 13.3 nautical miles off Isla de Tortuga. (bairdmaritime.com)

The Akademik Sergey Vavilov in  South GeorgiaThe Russian Government has commandeered two One Ocean Expeditions ships just four weeks before their departure dates, meaning the line’s cruise season has been heavily disrupted. The ice-strengthened ship Akademik Sergey Vavilov was due to commence its Arctic season in June in Spitsbergen while sister ship, Akademik Ioffe, was due to start in the Canadian Arctic in late July.
