With calls increasing to 89 in 2018 from 57 this year, and passengers rising to 170,000 on 93,000, Trondheim Port Authority (TPA) has decided to employ Maria Kuhnl as cruise coordinator in a 100% position from January. September was a very busy month in A Coruña. The Spanish port received 31 calls out of a total of 120 this year. Estimated passenger numbers for the year are 170,000. This compares with 94 calls and 126,735 passengers in 2016 which is an impressive increase and comes partly as the result of an increased commitment by the port authority to attract cruise business. The Port of Kalundborg has entered into partnership with Blue Water Shipping and PWL Port Services to introduce the Danish port as the new gateway to the Baltics, catering to large cruiseships with easy access to Copenhagen Airport as well as the city itself. The partners will be responsible for the terminal operation as well as acquisition. (more…)

Port of Holyhead – Located on the Isle of Anglesey, the Port of Holyhead is the gateway to North Wales and Snowdonia. A warm welcome can be found right at the quayside on every cruise call, explained Jane Owen, cruise executive Visit Wales. Coach parking is available at the quayside and a free shuttle bus for passenger and crew runs from the port to the town centre and shopping area. (more…)

Work to extend the pier at Oddeyrarbryggja is complete. The pier now measures 240m in length and has been fitted with new 200t storm bollards. Recent dredging means the depth alongside now ranges from 9.5m to 11m. Vessels of up to 350m in length can now be accommodated alongside. (more…)

Cherbourg began the season on April 18 and by the end of July had welcomed 16 calls and 33,126 passengers and 14,202 crew members. The majority of passengers were British (14,093) followed by Americans (7,607) and Germans (3,278). (more…)

April 26 marked the arrival of the first cruiseship of Gothenburg’s season. A total of 34 calls on 18 ships are expected this year, carrying 60,000 passengers. This is fewer than has become normal but is attributable in part to competition from Denmark. (more…)
