Costa Cruises has named Dario Rustico as CEO of its South America operation, taking over from Renê Hermann after a 24 year career. Around midnight yesterday (Nov.20), the ship of the Italian company, which was sailing south of the Peloponnese towards the port of Katakolon, received a request for intervention from the Hellenic Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center of Piraeus to aid the fish carrier “Kilic 1”, in serious distress due to a fire onboard. CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping has announced an agreement to purchase two existing ships from Carnival Corporation’s Costa Group. The first of these ships, the 85,861-ton, 2,210-passenger Costa Atlantica, is scheduled to be transferred to the new Chinese cruise line by the end of 2019. The new line is part of a joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and Carnival Corporation. (cruiseindustrynews.com)

China Duty Free Group (CDFG) has signed an agreement with Carnival Corporation to operate the retail on Costa Cruises vessel Costa Atlantica. A tender to operate retail on Costa Atlantica was launched by Carnival Corporation in 2016. CDFG said it beat “fierce competition” from many international duty-free operators to secure the concession after many rounds of negotiations. (dfnionline.com)

Costa Cruises is continuing to expand and renew its fleet of ships flying the Italian flag. At Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, construction has begun on a new 135,500-ton ship with 2,116 cabins, due for delivery in 2020.
