Cruise Companies Pursue Different Brand Growth Strategies

While Carnival Cruise Line brand will continue to be the dominant brand for Carnival Corporation over the next decade, carrying twice as many passengers as the second largest brand, Costa Crociere will see the most capacity growth over the same time period, driven partially by its short cruises in China.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (logo)Asia Pacific has overtaken Europe as the second most important source region for cruise passengers, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL) said in its 2018 annual report. The number of Europeans that took a cruise increased by 3.0% to 6.99 million last year, while the Asia-Pacific region experienced a 29.4% increase, to 7.00 million, RCCL said. (cruisebusiness.com)

New Study Finds Negligible Environmental Impact From Accumulated Scrubber Wash Water In Ports

Independence of The Seas scrubberThe Clean Shipping Alliance (CSA) 2020 has welcomed the preliminary results of an independent study presented by CE Delft, a research organisation in the Netherlands specialising in environmental issues, indicating that accumulated concentrations of exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS, or “scrubbers”) wash water components are at very low levels and well below applicable regulatory limits. Cruise ships are choking Europe’s port cities with the biggest cruise company, Carnival Corporation, emitting 10 times more sulphur oxides (SOx) than all of Europe’s 260 million cars, new research shows.
