Marella Explorer 2  (Former SkySea Golden Era)Just a month on from its launch following a lavish renovation, norovirus has struck the Marella Explorer 2 cruise ship as it journeyed through the Mediterranean Sea, leaving passengers vomiting and ill. Marella Explorer 2 is currently at the port of Olbia on the Italian island of Sardinia. A spokesperson for Tui, the parent company of Marella Cruises which operates the vessel, told The Telegraph that a small number of passengers began feeling unwell last week. (newsweek.com)

TUI Group’s Trio of Cruise Brands Post Strong Earnings Performance

Reporting full year earnings, TUI Group saw revenue increase across its three cruise brands by 10.7 percent to 901.9 million euro for the 2018 fiscal year. Turnover was reported at 324 million euro, up 26.8 percent over the year prior. It was a strong year for TUI Cruises, Marella Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises with the company noting that investments in growing and modernizing its fleet were paying off. Former Marella Spirit reported sold for scrap

Thomson Spirit currently Marella SpiritFormer Marella Spirit that had until recently been operated by TUI AG’s British cruise line Marella Cruises on charter, has reportedly been sold for demolition in India. A report on the sergiocruises.blogspot.com website said that the sale was concluded on 29 October and the ship had been renamed Mare S for a voyage from Athens to Alang. (cruisebusiness.com)

Mein Schiff 2 to remain in Germany, older and smaller ex Century to Marella Cruises

The SkySea Golden Era (Ex Celebrity Century)The termination of a Chinese joint venture of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd (RCCL) and its partner Ctrip means that Marella Cruises, the British cruise line owned by TUI AG, will acquire the 72,458 gross ton Golden Era that was built in 1995 as Century of Celebrity Cruises, from the venture. SkySea Shutdown Sparks Ship Transfer Shuffle

With the SkySea Cruise Line brand coming to an end later this year, a number of fleet changes will follow the news that the 1,814-guest Golden Era will be sold to Marella Cruises. The Golden Era is expected to transfer to Marella by December, and will take the place of the 1,912-passenger Mein Schiff 2, which was poised to move to Marella in spring 2019.
