The Steel Cutting of Oceanwide Expeditions’ “Janssonius” Officially Begins
As announced last July, Oceanwide Expeditions has ordered a new built Polar Class 6 ship: M/v “Janssonius”. She will have the same passenger capacity as Hondius (174), a nearly identical size and design, and will be a Polar Class 6 ice-strengthened vessel equivalent to a 1A super ice-class ship. (more…)

Due to the success of our new Polar Class 6 ship, Hondius, Oceanwide Expeditions has ordered a sister ship built by the same manufacturer: M/v Janssonius is scheduled to be completed in October, 2021.
Yesterday Oceanwide Expeditions (Nov. 22) reached the remote emperor penguin colony on Snow Hill Island for the second year running. Using the helicopters staged aboard its vessel Ortelius, Oceanwide flew passengers to this rarely visited Antarctic location, then led small hiking groups toward the site – one of the largest breeding colonies of the world’s most iconic penguin species.
It was mere weeks ago that our vessel-to-be Hondius consisted of nothing more than a couple of great brown blocks of cross-sectioned steel. Now, we can already see the contours of what will be one of the most flexible and specialized Polar expedition vessels in the world.
“Hondius is the first polar class of cruise ships “LR PC6” that will be produced in the world. Construction of passenger ships is the segment where European and Croatian shipyards can compete. This project has definitely positioned Brodosplit in polar expedition vessels market”, said Tomislav Debeljak, CEO of Brodosplit.
