Hurtigruten’s “Richard With” to start conversion to battery hybrid propulsion
The first of three Norwegian Coastal Express vessels owned by Norway’s Hurtigruten to be converted from diesel propulsion to battery hybrid propulsion, the 11,205 gt and 1993-built “Richard With”, arrived at Norwegian shipyard Myklebust Verft on 4 February to start her major seven month conversion from diesel propulsion to a battery hybrid system.
The same conversion project will be undertaken on sistership “Nordlys” and “Kong Harald”, with all three vessels back in service in 2023.
“These upgrades will cut CO2 emissions by at least 25% and NOx by a massive 80%,” said the CEO of Hurtigruten Group Daniel Skjeldam.
