Falmouth in Cornwall UK has lay-by berths available for ships up to 235m length overall. The French decree of March 23 2020 prohibiting stopovers of cruiseships with or without crew until April 15 2020 has been modified and the date of prohibition extended to May 11 2020.
All restrictions in GDYNIA have been prolonged and in some cases upgraded. The situation is dynamic and regulations are adjusted to the situation on a daily basis. For the time being, it would be very difficult for the port to accept a cruiseship for layup.
Cruise Port HARLINGEN in The Netherlands can accept a maximum of two cruiseships for a longer period of time, each up to a maximum length of 160m. Security measures will be in place for the crew who will have to remain on board. The port will provide information about restrictions for crew, place and period.
ICELANDIC ports are open and following the authorities’ guidelines at all times. Iceland is one of the nation’s that has been able to slow down the spread of Covid-19 in the community and is now seeing a decline in the number of cases. Hence the government will lift many of the restrictions from May 4.
Gyda Gudmundsdottir, general manager NAA and spokesperson for Cruise Iceland, comments: “The authorities have not presented a precise plan regarding tourists (by vessel or plane), but said they are working on it and will make an announcement soon. Together with AECO we are looking into ways of conducting more nature landings and thus minimising the contact with local people.”
With effect from 1 April, Mukran Port and Sassnitz City Harbour will grow together. Both ports are located in the port city of Sassnitz, the gateway to the Baltic Sea island of RUEGEN. Sassnitz City Harbour is predestined for small to medium-sized ships. Mukran Port, located 4 miles from the centre, provides mooring for ships up to 365m in length. The two ports have joint cruise coordination.
Following her virtual delivery from Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Celebrity Apex is docked safely in NANTES ST NAZAIRE with her crew onboard until such time as the restrictions are lifted.
