Regina Rheni II departs from Arnhem, in The Netherlands, on December 16, 2016 and sails to Düsseldorf for Christmas shopping in the city where guests can follow the aromas of baked apples, roast chestnuts and spiced mulled wine.
There is plenty to explore: In the Marktplatz, stalls echo the style of the Renaissance city hall and craftsmen demonstrate their skills in glass-blowing and wood carving ornaments; wrought iron angels adorn huts in Little Angel Market and on Flinger Strasse stalls resemble the city’s old town houses. Little Star Market is in the Wilhelm-Marx-Haus courtyard and the Schadowplatz is home to a wintery Scandinavian-style village and elegant shops.
The 154-passenger ship then sails on to Bonn for an afternoon and morning in the former capital of West Germany. Twinkling lights on Münsterplatz lead to the colourful market with music, fairground rides and delicious specialty food and drinks.
Cologne is next on the itinerary, where there are seven magical markets to discover. The Gothic cathedral creates an impressive backdrop to the main market while St Nick’s Village Market and the Angel Market offer host of pretty stalls. The Harbour Christmas Market has a maritime theme and is close to the Chocolate Museum which has a riverside café and shop crammed with sweet treats.
