Union Pier Terminal begins new chapter as Charleston’s cruise ship era ends
Union Pier Terminal is beginning a new chapter with the end of cruise ships. The last cruise ship docked and departed, but what replaces it hopes to reshape the city’s waterfront for generations to come.
The City of Charleston is working to balance tourism with quality of life, so while this cruise ship chapter is officially closing, a new one is just beginning to put residents first.
“We were just here for the day. We came in this morning, and we’ve been touring ever since,” Shirley Brooks, Norwegian Jewel Cruise Attendee, said. “We set sail out of Philadelphia, and we went to Bermuda and then the beautiful city of Charleston.”
