1.45 million Aussies set huge cruise record, but the $7bn industry has a problem
More people are booking cruises than ever before but the more than $7 billion Australian industry says there’s a problem.
A record 1.45 million Australians took an ocean cruise in 2025 – breaking the previous record of 1.35 million in 2018, new data from Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) shows.
It was also a 9.5 per cent jump on the number of people who took a cruise in 2024.
But CLIA Australasia is warning Australia is “becoming uncompetitive as a destination and losing tourism to other countries” – a blow to the more than $7 billion Australian industry.
