Strong Season Ahead For Cruise In Halifax
The 2026 cruise season at the Port of Halifax starts today (April 7, 2026), as we welcome passengers arriving on the Viking Polaris. The season is set to run from April 7 until November 5, 2026.
Highlights of the season include:
◉ Norwegian Cruise Line increased presence in spring and summer with the addition of Bermuda itineraries that include a stop in Halifax
◉ Carnival Cruise Line returning to the region with new homeporting from Norfolk, Virginia
◉ MSC Meraviglia offering a partial turn call in Halifax before its transatlantic crossing on April 21
“We’re excited to welcome cruise guests back to Halifax for what’s shaping up to be a strong season,” said Robyn Stewart, Manager of Cruise Development at the Port of Halifax.
“With new itineraries and new homeports calling Halifax and the region, we’re expanding connectivity with large population centres and raising awareness of cruise travel in Atlantic Canada across major new markets.”
Cruise contributes to the tourism economy in Halifax and the province. A 2023 study by the Cruise Lines International Association showed cruise generates nearly $200 million annually and close to 1,000 jobs in Nova Scotia, supporting local businesses, attractions, restaurants and shops.
Other season standouts include:
◉ 189 calls by 28 cruise lines
◉ Approximately 363,000 guests
◉ Overnight call of the Queen Mary 2 on July 7-8
