Skagway Assembly declines to accept study it commissioned to show cost of tourism

Alaska Ports of call (Courtesy Wikipedia)The Skagway Borough Assembly declined to accept a new report, funded by the borough, that would have changed how the municipality distributes commercial passenger vessel excise tax, or CPV funds.

They chose to stick with a different, older method, that they say more accurately reflects cruise ship passenger cost to the community.

The McKinley Research Group released its Skagway cruise passenger cost study in August. The findings were based on 2024 statistics. Heather Haughland is the vice-president for McKinley Research.
