Duluth finishes seawall just in time to welcome season’s first cruise ship
After delays and cost overruns, a crucial component of the port’s marine tourism infrastructure is ready for business.
City officials put a $22 million investment to good use Tuesday when the Octantis cruise ship tied up on a newly constructed section of seawall alongside the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
Mayor Roger Reinert called on locals to reframe their thinking as to what constitutes the “front” and the “back” of the DECC.
He suggested the waterfront truly should be considered the front door to the facility and the community, especially as Duluth works to build its nascent cruise ship industry.
