Cruise recycling picks up with two veterans heading to Alang and Aliaga

Ocean Atlantic ex-Russ ex-Konstantin ChernenkoTwo veteran cruise ships built for cold-water voyages are set to face the heat of oxyacetylene torches on the ship recycling beaches of Turkey and India.

Details of the demise of the 12,800-gt Ocean Atlantic (built 1986) at Aliaga and the 25,600-gt Right (built 1980) at Alang emerged when both were recently beached.

The Ocean Atlantic last operated as an expedition cruise ship in the polar regions, but has spent several years in lay-up after being outclassed by a wave of newbuildings in this niche sector.
