Caribbean Travel Disrupted Following U.S.-led Ousting of Venezuelan President
As a result of the United States’ government capture of embattled Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and the escalation of military activity in the South American country, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has temporarily restricted U.S. airline companies from traveling to and from several airports in the Caribbean region.
This measure has left thousands of travelers stranded during the winter season in the Caribbean, the busiest for cruise travel in the region.
In San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport — the main gateway to Puerto Rico — more than 300 flights were canceled today, leaving more than 48,000 passengers stranded, according to local media reports.
