A naming ceremony for the largest cruise ship to be christened in the UK has had to be evacuated as heavy winds rocked the quayside marquee. The star-studded event for the MSC Bellissima was being held in a giant marquee next to the liner at Southampton when the decision was made to move the event on board. (independent.ie)

The Ocean Terminal is being upgraded to accommodate the growing demand from cruise lines for ever larger ships to call at Southampton. Work (A £12 million package of investment) begins this month to increase passenger capacity at the terminal by 50 percent and is expected to take just over a year to complete and will further strengthen the port’s position as Northern Europe’s leading cruise port.
