Cruise ship (Star Pride) arrives in Manhattan after power failure

The Star Pride, which had 351 people on board, stranded Friday in Buzzards Bay between Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard. Windstar Cruises, who operates Star Pride, said the ship experienced a loss of cooling water for the engine systems, causing automatic shutdown of the traction and auxiliary engines. Cunard to Broadcast LIVE Red Carpet from “The Greatest Showman” World Premiere on Flagship Queen Mary 2

On Friday, December 8, luxury cruise line Cunard and 20th Century Fox will host the world premiere of “The Greatest Showman” on flagship ocean liner Queen Mary 2 while docked in New York. Cunard will broadcast the red carpet event LIVE from the ship in real-time with a Facebook livestream, giving viewers an opportunity to be part of the first major Hollywood film premiere on a passenger ship.



Pier 92 Making Comeback in Manhattan Expansion

New York City is now offering three fully functioning buildings at Manhattan Cruise Terminal as Pier 92 is poised to once again become a regular berth option for ships calling in New York. Ocean liner memorabilia took top lot honors at Weiss Auctions’ June 22 sale, as a letter handwritten aboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic on April 13, 1912 sold for $22,600, an original life ring from the SS Andrea Doria brought $8,050 and a glass clock presented to first class passengers on the maiden voyage of the SS Normandie in 1935 changed hands for $4,560. Luxe, a valet parking start-up, is looking to make inroads on the cruise port parking business with an app-based business model. In New York, the company has an attractive port parking offer for $160 for a week-long cruise, compared to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, which charges $40 per day ($280 for a week).
