Cruise lines, mayor say shore power coming to PortMiami ‘as expeditiously as possible’

PortMiami (Photo credit PortMiami)Polluting cruise ships may finally be able to plug in at PortMiami, slashing emissions that harm humans and contribute to climate change. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava signed a letter of intent Wednesday with the CEOs of six cruise companies and the CEO of Florida Power & Light to bring the pollution control technology called shore power to PortMiami. Storylines Cruise Start Up Opens Miami Office

Storylines, which hopes to launch service with a residence-based cruise ship, has announced it has a new office in Miami. The new location is in partnership with Italian interior design firm Made by TSI, the company said. (cruiseindustrynews.com)

First Carnival Cruise Ship is Back in Miami

PortMiami continues to move forward with major expansion projects

PortMiami (Photo credit PortMiami)Miami-Dade County officials recently authorized the issuance of $335 million to PortMiami under the Capital Asset Acquisition Special Obligation Bonds “2020 Authorization” for revenue generating capital projects with Carnival Corporation, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line (Bahamas), Terminal Link Miami, and Virgin Cruise Intermediate Limited, as well as other infrastructure projects allowing the Port to continue expanding business opportunities. Edwin Stephan had lofty goals when he envisioned Miami as a cruise capital. It was 1969, man had landed and walked on the moon that summer, and Stephan, seven years into the cruise industry by that point, figured man would want to take advantage of South Florida’s waterways, too, and sail upon them for great terrestrial adventures.
