Passenger carryings on Corsica and North Africa ferry services rose 7% to 1.2 million, which almost compensated for cruise numbers dropping 7% to 1.5 million.  Throughput at the leading French cruise port was affected by Croisieres de France ceasing operations and by the repositioning of some US vessels in Asia and northern Europe.  (more…)

A ribbon cutting took place earlier this week to mark the official inauguration of the new Drydock No. 10 in Marseille Port. It marks the official opening of the biggest drydock in the Mediterranean, and one of the biggest in the world. Drydockings at the facility have already taken place with ships from AIDA, Costa and MSC. (cruiseindustrynews.com)

The largest dry dock in the Mediterranean — the Port of Marseille’s Graving Dock No. 10 (Forme 10) — is back in operation. Opened in 1975 to accommodate a new generation of ULCCs, the giant dock measures 485 m (1.525 ft) long by 85 m (279 ft) wide with a 10.7m (35 ft) maximum draft above the blocks. (marinelog.com)

Passenger throughput started the year at half-pace, down 13% on a total of 269,000. Cruise numbers fell 16% to 150,000 – with 41 calls as against 48 in Q1 last year – including 55,000 home port passengers. Ferry carryings on the North Africa and more seasonal Corsica services fell 8% to 119,000.
