From 2021, the world’s largest expedition cruise line offers guests a new way to explore the Norwegian coast – with full-year departures directly from the UK, Germany and Norway.

Hurtigruten names polar pioneer Karin Strand (48) as godmother to the world’s first hybrid powered cruise ship, MS Roald Amundsen. The naming is set to take place November 8th, during MS Roald Amundsen’s maiden voyage to the white continent. She will be the first ship in history to be named in Antarctica.
Hurtigruten continues to move boundaries for green technology: Through giant makeovers, three Hurtigruten vessels will be transformed to premium, hybrid powered expedition cruise ships.

Hurtigruten’s Loften is celebrating 55 years today (March 5, 2019) since the ship launched service from Bergen in 1964. During these 55 years, the ship has sailed approx. 4.3 million nautical miles or 8 million kilometers. According to Hurtigruten, the original Burmeister & Wain main engine has passed a record 325,000 operating hours. (cruiseindustrynews.com)
Hurtigruten reports that it is planning an extensive renovation project that will transform the MS Finnmarken into a premium expedition cruise ship. The refurb is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020, after which the ship will sail itineraries along the Norwegian coastline. (travelagentcentral.com)
