Viking today announced that revered British journalist and broadcaster Anne Diamond will be the godmother of its seventh ocean ship, Viking Venus®, which is scheduled to debut this spring. Virgin Voyages floated out the second ship in its fleet yesterday, Valiant Lady. The 2,750-passenger ship is set to launch in May 2021 and will be based in Barcelona, offering seven-night Med cruises including an overnight in Ibiza. Two of the biggest shipyards in Europe forced to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic are taking their first steps to reopen. Fincantieri, which operates several shipyards in Italy, was forced to stop all work during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in that country. Windstar Cruises is canceling 20 sailings on Star Breeze, Star Pride and Star Legend due to construction delays that follow the discovery of asbestos during the ships’ renovation. Fincantieri has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA), worth about 300 million euro, for the construction and design of 2 new-generation luxury expedition cruise vessels for the French cruise company PONANT, a subsidiary of Artemis Group (holding company of the Pinault family).
