The steel cutting ceremony on 5 October 2017 marked the start of the construction of HANSEATIC inspiration, the second, new-build expedition ship from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, one of the leading cruise providers in the luxury and expedition segment. (more…)

VARD Expedition Ship Letter of Intent Expires

VARD said its letter of intent to build an expedition ship for an international cruise company had expired, in a prepared statement. VARD had signed the deal in January with an undisclosed customer, believed to be a current player in the expedition market. (cruiseindustrynews.com)

Keel Laid for Hanseatic nature: marking the start of the next construction stage

On June 20th, 2017 the next construction stage of HANSEATIC nature, the first of two expedition new-builds, has begun with the keel laying. At the VARD shipyard in Tulcea, Romania, Karl J. Pojer, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, placed a coin inside the steel block; the coin was welded into the block and will accompany the ship on all its future cruises. (more…)



Ponant Orders Four Ships from VARD

The Ponant new ships  (Artist impression by Stirling Design International)Ponant has signed a letter of intent for the order of four ships from VARD, the Norwegian subsidiary of Fincantieri.
