Amsterdam Cruise Ship Calls Drop by 40 Percent Following Imposition of Cruise Passenger Tax Save
Amsterdam’s decision to impose a tax just on cruise passengers has led to a 40 percent reduction in the number of calls to the city this year. P&O Cruises, Cunard, MSC Cruises and Cruise & Maritime Voyages pulled out of the port earlier this year when Amsterdam city council imposed an €8 per 24-hour tax on cruise passengers from January 1, 2019. Crystal River Cruises officially welcomed its newest ship to the fleet today (May 28), as Crystal Debussy was christened in Amsterdam. Marking the occasion were Crystal’s president and CEO, Tom Wolber, Crystal River Cruises’ vice president and managing director, Walter Littlejohn, and Crystal Debussy’s godmother, Broadway star Rachel York.
On Friday 24 February celebrations took place at the Ruyterkade Oost in Amsterdam. Not one but two river cruise vessels of the Swiss shipping company Scylla were christened.
