Just Before the Women’s World Cup: Basketball Stars Visit the AIDAperla
The Orlando Magic Summer Tour in Germany made its first-ever stop on a cruise ship, marking the highlight of the AIDA Basketball Summer 2026.
One week before the start of the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, two brands—AIDA Cruises and Kellogg’s—sent a strong message in support of basketball in Germany: At the AIDA Basketball Day on the AIDAperla on Saturday, August 29, 2026, fans, partners, influencers, and national and international basketball personalities gathered in the Port of Hamburg.
The event marked the highlight of the AIDA Basketball Summer 2026 and was also part of the Orlando Magic Summer Tour, which made its first-ever stop on a cruise ship. The AIDA Basketball Summer 2026 includes, among other things, partnerships with the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, basketball camps on board with players and coaches from the ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES, and numerous interactive activities for guests and fans.
With Basketball Day, AIDA combines sports, travel, and entertainment in a unique event format. Instead of gathering in a traditional arena, the basketball community met aboard a cruise ship. Guests included NBA legend Mickaël Piétrus, 2024 Paris 3×3 Olympic champion Sonja Greinacher, and delegations from the ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES and HAMBURG TOWERS.
A central element of the program was the Orlando Magic Clinic on the AIDAperla’s sports deck. Up-and-coming players had the opportunity to train alongside basketball personalities on the open-air court and experience the sport up close. The program was complemented by a live podcast with André “Dré” Voigt, shooting challenges with guests and pros against the backdrop of the Port of Hamburg, and personal encounters with the athletes. With this event format, AIDA not only raises the profile of basketball but also allows guests, fans, and partners to experience it firsthand.
In addition, basketball influencer Angie Raab covered the event on her social media channels and gave her community insights into what was happening on board.
The AIDA Basketball Day also marked the end of a summer in which AIDA had continuously expanded its commitment to basketball. In addition to partnerships in competitive and elite sports, the focus is particularly on hands-on activities. Onboard basketball camps, sweepstakes tied to the FIBA Women’s World Cup, and digital activations provided guests and fans with a variety of ways to engage with the sport. AIDA is also a partner of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin and other basketball events, thereby strengthening its presence in the world of one of Germany’s most dynamic team sports.
The AIDA Basketball Summer 2026 underscores the strategic importance of sports for the company. From promoting young talent to collaborating with sports clubs and international partners, AIDA aims to bring people together through shared experiences. In doing so, the company builds on a core concept that links sports and travel: encountering new people, perspectives, and communities.
