Urgent Relief Needed After Myanmar Earthquake. Join Pandaw in Relief Efforts for Myanmar Earthquake Survivors
In the wake of Myanmar’s earthquake, the need for support has never been greater.
As of yesterday, state media reported over 3,100 confirmed deaths, with more than 4,500 people injured and 221 still missing. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates the final death toll could exceed 10,000.
While nearly 2,000 rescue workers from 15 countries are on the ground, the scale of destruction—especially in hard-hit areas like Mandalay—continues to overwhelm relief teams. Donation can help provide urgently needed supplies, medical aid, and shelter to those affected.
Paul Strachan writes:
“Many thanks to the many people who generously donated funds to our Mandalay earthquake appeal. After less than a week, we have raised over USD50,000 through GoFundMe and Pandaw have donated a further USD20,000. We have made the following disbursements focusing on volunteer groups rather than big NGOs:”
> Medical Action Myanmar have a team of 45 medics and paramedics in the Mandalay area working in 15 teams, working in different locations, where we have identified most destruction and need.
> Inle volunteer group distributing food, water and medical supplies in the Inle area.
> New Humanity International – an Italian Catholic charity working in Mandalay and Inle.

It does not make good reading. The only real international aid is coming from Russia and China followed by regional support from India, Indonesia and Singapore. Trumps termination of USAID could not have come at a worse time. So the work of local volunteer groups and small charities on the ground is of immense significance.
After enduring temperatures of 40C, with the awful stench of rotting bodies, the rains have come early and the 1,000s of homeless people do not even have tarpaulins to hide under.
“If you have not yet donated, I ask you to reconsider, and if you have donated already, a further donation would go far.”
Note: “GoFundMe ask for a ‘tip’ of 17.5%. You can switch this off by sliding the green bar to the left. As they take 2.9% anyway I think this enough.
Thank you again for your kind support for the people of Upper Burma”.
