In episode 7 of “Crystal Cruises Presents: A Culinary Journey Hosted by Chef Jon Ashton,” the spotlight shines on the pairing of New Zealand’s signature wines and the culinary artistry of Crystal Serenity’s chefs. Chef Jon Ashton joins Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas just outside of Auckland where they explore the perfect vintages to pair with a multi-course dinner in the ship’s Vintage Room.

Viewers can follow Ashton and Douglas to Kumeu River Winery and Villa Maria Winery, where they discuss the nuances of the vintages produced by each, as well as other characteristics of New Zealand wines. The two then return to Crystal Serenity to present their selections to the evening’s dinner guests, paired with six distinct courses created especially for the occasion. Guests are guided through the pairing journey by the two experts, who highlight tasting notes of the Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and other vintages, as well as the complementary fresh ingredients featured in each dish.

Episode 8

Local rhythms, lemurs and the sweetness of Madagascar’s vanilla are the stars of Episode 8 of “Crystal Cruises Presents: A Culinary Journey Hosted by Jon Ashton.” The celebrity chef and Crystal Serenity’s own executive pastry chef, Harold Neufang, spend the first portion of the latest video offering viewers a glimpse into the growing process and environment on the island, as well as the local culture and famous furry treetop residents.

After tasting some of the local methods of cooking with the decadent flavors of vanilla, chefs Ashton and Neufang return to the ship inspired to showcase the indulgent ingredient during Crystal Serenity’s Mozart Tea in Palm Court. Viewers are treated to insights about the creative ways to use this beloved bean – including the meticulous process of creating perfect pastries.
