Cruise and Maritime Voyages to aid Mozambique

The 21,000grt Astor - Cruise and Maritime VoyagesCruise and Maritime Voyages invited passengers on board Astor to make a special contribution to help the humanitarian crisis in Mozambique. Astor visited Maputo in the south of Mozambique on Sunday 24 March.

CMV invited passengers visiting Maputo to help the aid and relief programme in recognition of the current crisis in Mozambique. CMV started the ball rolling with a sizeable donation and then has matched pound for pound the donations received on board, raising £7,576 for the relief programme.

Maputo is in the south of Mozambique and is largely unaffected by the recent Cyclone Idai. However, almost 1,200 square miles of the country in the northern Beira coastal region have been flooded, leaving thousands without food, clean water or shelter.

Chris Coates, Commercial Director of CMV said ‘CMV has chosen to donate to the UK based DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee), an umbrella emergency relief charity supporting 14 UK aid charities including; Christian Aid, Save the Children, the British Red Cross and Oxfam. This appeal has been well supported by passengers raising thousands of pounds to help the people of Mozambique at this difficult time.’

The 21,000grt Astor is on a 43-night northbound voyage from Australia to the UK with 552 passengers on board.
