2017 will be the largest cruise season in Fredericia, Denmark until now

With eight cruise calls in 2017, Fredericia can look forward to the largest cruise season to date. Eight calls in Fredericia next year compared with four calls this year means a growth in the number of cruise guests to the city, which in turn will become important for the shops and restaurants in Fredericia and at the major tourist attractions in Southern Denmark.

With the prospect of more than 16,000 cruise passengers including crew members divided amongst eight cruise calls in 2017, Fredericia is well on its way to beat the towns own record in the number of cruise calls.

ADP A/S, which owns and operates the port of Fredericia, has since 2012 focused on the development of Fredericia as the preferred cruise destination in Southern Denmark in cooperation with the Municipality of Fredericia and Visit Fredericia. The competition is tough and persistent marketing efforts are therefore needed to attract the international cruise lines.

A long-term growth strategy within the cruise business area
“The growth in calls for 2017 affirms that our targeted sales and marketing efforts within the cruise business area have been successful. We have a strategic focus on developing Fredericia as a destination in close cooperation with the Municipality of Fredericia and Visit Fredericia, and this close cooperation will also be further strengthened in the years to come”, says Nils Skeby, CEO at ADP A/S.

Fredericia Municipality takes part in the development
Mayor of Fredericia, Jacob Bjerregaard, is excited about the positive development and encourages further growth.“The number of cruise calls to Fredericia creates value – not just for the city but also for Southern Denmark. With our central location, good berthing facilities at the port and not least Frederica’s unique history, there is great potential for further growth in the cruise area. This means that the City Council of Fredericia has decided to invest in and strengthen our tourism initiative in our 2017 budget”, says Mayor Jacob Bjerregaard.

The 2017 cruise season
Fredericia has a lot to offer – both the city itself, but also the hinterland with many unique attractions, including three UNESCO sites. The wide range of attractions appeal to many different cruise companies and audiences. The 2017 cruise season kicks off on May 24 with the arrival of the Prinsendam ship – part of the Holland America Line, which carries 835 guests. During the 2017 season, three large ships from one of the world’s leading cruise lines, Royal Caribbean, with up to 2,500 passengers on board each ship will berth in Fredericia.
