Kiel expects 168 cruise ship visits in 2018

Ostseekai Cruise Terminal at the Port of KielLast year Kiel was visited on 143 separate occasions (147 in 2016) by 29 different cruise ships with a total gross tonnage of more than 10 million – an increase of 7.5 % over the previous year. For the first time ever more than half a million travellers boarded or left cruise ships in 2017 – 513,500 to be exact, an increase of 6 %. (more…)

Kiel chalks up 350th call by an MSC cruise ship. Bronze Plaque Marks Ostseekai Anniversary Visit

The “MSC Fantasia” arrived at the Ostseekai from St Petersburg in Russia early on Saturday September 2nd for what is the 350th visit by an MSC cruise ship to the port of Kiel. Marking the anniversary, the ship’s captain, Guiseppe Galano was welcomed to the Schleswig-Holstein state capital by Nicole Claus, who is the Cruise Shipping Director of the Port of Kiel.

Cruise season peaks with four ships at once. More than 23,000 ship passengers expected on Saturday at Kiel

Ostseekai Cruise Terminal at the Port of KielKiel is expecting a quadruple climax to its cruise shipping season on Saturday, August 12th, when four cruise ships will arrive in the port at the same time, in addition to the Baltic ferries of Color Line, Stena Line and DFDS. In the wake of the “AIDAvita” and “AIDAluna”, the “MSC Fantasia” and the “Zuiderdam“ of Holland America Line will berth on Saturday morning. (more…)

AIDAcara opens 2017 cruise ship season in Kiel

This year’s cruise shipping season opens in Kiel on April 9th with a call by “AIDAcara”. Up to the middle of October 28 different cruise ships will berth in the port a total of 142 times while up to half a million passengers are expected to go ashore or embark. (more…)

Port of Kiel posts record on passenger handling and can look back on its most successful cruise shipping season

Ostseekai Cruise Terminal at the Port of KielAlmost 2.1 million travellers were recorded on passenger services – an increase of 3.4 % over the previous year. All the ferry operators reported growth with Color Line posting the highest number of passengers. In the cruise shipping sector Kiel can look back on its most successful cruise shipping season ever with record results in the numbers of ship calls, passenger totals and overall tonnage.
