As the partial shutdown of the U.S. government drags on, travelers continue to face the consequences of the political impasse in airports throughout the country.
The most impactful effect thus far has been the temporary suspension of Global Entry, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that allows pre-approved travelers expedited clearance upon arrival to United States, bypassing traditional passport lines.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees U.S. Customs and Border Protection, some 20 million travelers are currently enrolled in the Global Entry Program.
