Unrest Strikes Mexico Following Operation Against Drug Cartel; Cruise Ship Itineraries Affected

Violence has erupted in Mexico after a military operation killed the country’s most-wanted drug carter leader, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, in the state of Jalisco.

In response to the strike, suspected members of organized crime affiliated with Oseguera Cervantes’ Jalisco New Generation Cartel have retaliated by burning vehicles and businesses as well as clashing with authorities in various locations throughout Jalisco and nearby states, according to local media reports.

The violence has spilled to the port city of Puerto Vallarta, a popular tourist and cruise destination in the Mexican Riviera, where several fires have been reported.
