China’s Game-Changing Methanol-Powered Cruise Ship to Redefine Luxury Travel on the Yangtze River!

On November 27, 2025, the construction of Changjiang 7, China’s first new-generation methanol-powered smart cruise ship, officially commenced at the China Merchants Heavy Industries Haimen shipyard (CMHI Haimen).

This major milestone in the country’s cruise tourism sector marks the beginning of a new era of luxury inland river cruises on the Yangtze River, with a strong focus on sustainability and technological innovation.

The vessel is being built by Chongqing Changjiang Shipping, a subsidiary of China Changjiang Shipping Group, which is part of the China Merchants Group.
