Australasian Agents Enjoy Fiordland Expedition Cruises with Pioneering Kiwi Cruise Company Heritage Expeditions
Agents from both sides of the ditch have just enjoyed a 3-day authentic expedition cruise of Fiordland with Australasia’s only family-owned and -operated cruise company Heritage Expeditions.
Commercial Director and Expedition Leader Aaron Russ, who grew up exploring New Zealand and the world’s wild places in the family business, said he was proud to be able to showcase some of New Zealand’s most spectacular, and hard to reach, destinations with the lucky 25 agents aboard Heritage Expeditions 18-guest expedition yacht Heritage Explorer.
“My parents Rodney and Shirley pioneered expedition cruising in Fiordland 40 years ago, and it was from these first, wild Kiwi wilderness adventures that our dream of genuine responsible tourism was realised”, he said.
“Obviously Fiordland is close to our hearts and we were delighted to share our passion for, and knowledge of, this iconic destination which is both historically fascinating and the location of some of world’s most stunning, grand-scale scenery.”
The famils were hosted by Heritage Expeditions Australian Sales Manager Chris le Roux and New Zealand Trade Sales Executive Sharon Salmons on two, in-depth explorations into the heart of Fiordland’s World Heritage Area Dusky Sound – one of Fiordland’s largest fiords some 40-kilometres long and studded with more than 350 islands.
Their expedition cruises through Dusky Sound visited some of the most significant historic and conservation sites in New Zealand while experiencing some of the country’s most majestic scenery, and included a scenic helicopter transfer with Southern Lakes Helicopters.
Sharon, who hosted inbound agents ahead of the Tourism Export Council of New Zealand’s annual conference described the famil as an “inspiring experience with lots of food, wine, nature, waterfalls, scenery and laughs”.
While Chris recounted “an amazing three days with a wonderful group of Australian and New Zealand travel agents”.
“Fiordland is one of the most magical places on this planet and one of the most spectacular unspoiled natural areas,” he said.
