Swiss shipping company Scylla to focus entirely on its core business and will launch 12 newbuild ships by 2028

Scylla AG (Logo)The long-established shipping company, Scylla, will focus entirely on its core business: river cruising.

The Swiss family shipping company has decided to part with SEAVENTURE, the only expedition ship in its fleet. The sale to an international buyer will be completed this year. SEAVENTURE has been part of the Scylla fleet since 2019 and is mainly used for cruises on the Arctic and Antarctic.

“The sale came as a surprise and went faster than expected. We have big growth plans for river cruises and are very proud to be launching a total of 12 newbuild ships by the end of 2028. PORTO MIRANTE, Scylla’s brand-new ship for the Douro River, is the first of these newbuilds – and will be followed by VIVA ENJOY in November. This development underlines our positive direction and our commitment to river cruising”, says Scylla CEO, Arno Reitsma.

About Scylla
Swiss shipping company, Scylla AG, has been a pioneer of river cruises since 1973 and has successfully made a name for itself with the construction of innovative ships, not only in the charter business. Since its foundation, the company has expanded its cruising area from the Rhine to almost all of Europe’s major waterways, including the Seine, the Rhine and its tributaries, Holland and Belgium, Germany’s north-east, the Rhône and Saône, the Danube and the Main.

The fleet consists of 40 ships that are leaders in terms of technology, quality and design and reflect the Scylla character. The ships can accommodate between 88 and 220 passengers travelling in spacious and modern outside cabins.

The ships are time-chartered by various tour operators such as Phoenix, Nicko Cruises, TAUCK and Riviera Travel. In 2018, the family-run company founded its own river tour operator, VIVA Cruises.
