Costa Cruises received the ‘Best Improvement of D&I on the workplace’ award

Costa Cruises (New Logo - October 2021)Costa Cruises received the ‘Best Improvement of D&I on the workplace’ award from the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, currently chaired by Belgium.

This important award for D&I (Diversity & Inclusion) is given to companies in the maritime industry that have distinguished themselves in promoting and affirming gender equality and diversity within their organizations, fully integrating them into decision-making processes.

In particular, Costa Cruises was recognized for its ‘Transgender in the workplace’ policy, implemented to ensure that transgender people receive fair and equal treatment in the workplace, both on board ships and in ‘ashore’ offices.

The prize was presented in Brussels by the Hon. Mr. Paul Van Tigchelt, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the North Sea of the Kingdom of Belgium, to Stephane Codeluppi, Development and D.E.I. Manager of Costa Cruises, accompanied by Bernard Vanheule, Costa & Carnival Corporation EU Affairs Director.

“This recognition is further confirmation that the culture of diversity and inclusion is part of Costa Cruises’ DNA. Specifically, our transgender policy provides clear and concrete guidelines that help create a comfortable and inclusive working environment for transgender people. This kind of initiative has positive effects for the employees, improving their well-being, but also for the company, because it strengthens the sense of belonging, reputation and ability to attract new talent. Not only that: policies like ours can be useful in fostering a broader change within the society we live in” – said Stephane Codeluppi, Development and D.E.I. Manager at Costa Cruises.

For many years, Costa Cruises has been committed to promoting D&I within its on-board and land-based organization. Since 2015, the Italian company has pursued a structured approach, thanks to the appointment of a Diversity & Inclusion Manager, with the task of assessing internal policies and initiatives, implementing new initiatives, as well as monitoring and measuring progress.

Since 2018, diversity has officially become one of the company’s values. Costa also collaborates with various external organizations to address D&I issues and is committed to ensuring equal opportunities and avoiding any kind of discrimination. The culture of diversity and inclusion has also been deeply integrated into the company’s internal communication and talent acquisition process.

The D&I Honours were set up by the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) Belgium with the support of WISTA International, the European Commission’s Women in Transport – EU platform, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and numerous maritime transport stakeholders.
