Azamara Guests Find Love In Golden Years

ABC’s The Golden Bachelor is proving that seniors are full of life as ever, as the 72-year-old lead Gerry Turner captures the hearts of the show’s participants as well as millions of viewers across America.

Data from Azamara, the small-ship cruise line is illustrating that same point. The share of Azamara guests ages 60-89 is trending upwards, having increased 6% compared to 2019, as more seniors are seeking new adventures across the globe. Additionally, in 2023, 75% of guests within the ages of 65-75 have booked high-level activity shore excursions with Azamara.

Azamara guests in their golden years are most drawn to European sailings, with Greece ranking among the top destinations. Greece is a destination that Azamara knows best, with ship visits to more unique ports throughout the country than any other cruise line, and Extended Destination Days providing 10 or more hours in port so travelers can relax as they explore lesser-traveled destinations, including Argostoli, Patmos, and Amorgos.

Like the Golden Bachelor, some Azamara guests are seeking a second chance at love, and lucky ones have found it onboard. Alice Bearinger and Sidney Abrahams, both 88 years old, met on Azamara Onward in December of 2022, and fell in love through spontaneous shared meals and lots of laughter. The two returned to ship nearly a year later for a romantic Azamara cruise.
