African Congo River Cruise Added To Expedition Cruise Specialists Portfolio
Expedition Cruise Specialists has added a newly-released African Congo & Sangha Rivers expedition to their portfolio of the world’s best expedition and adventure cruises.
Set to launch in May 2024, the 13-day cruise aboard the refurbished 28-passenger RV Ducret promises a 1,000 kilometre voyage of discovery from Brazzaville, Congo along the Sangha and Congo rivers and through the wildlife-rich Congo Basin.
Several days are spent exploring Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park, where Cameroon, Central African Republic and Congo meet. Highlights include the opportunity to join Baaka trackers to view lowland gorillas and a visit to a Baaka pygmy village, where travellers will enjoy a memorable dinner in the company of one of the world’s last remaining hunter-gatherer peoples.
Originally built in 2017, RV Ducret is currently undergoing a major refurbishment ahead of her inaugural Congo expedition. Nicolas Ducret, head of Expeditions Ducret, suggests “the boutique 4-star RV Ducret heralds a new era for the development of sustainable tourism in the Republic of Congo, reviving the long tradition of river navigation in the country.”
Prices for the 13-day Ascent of the Congo & Sangha Rivers expedition start at €6,100 per person in a Deluxe Suite, with departures scheduled between May and January annually.
Andrew Castles, GM of Expedition Cruise Specialists, said he was excited by the launch of this new expedition. “Whilst expedition cruising has been booming in places like the polar regions and Australia’s Kimberley Coast, it’s great to see more options becoming available in Africa, a continent our travellers regularly ask us about” he said.
