Island PrincessAs York County prepares to welcome two Princess Cruise ships to its historic waterfront as part of a pilot program in 2024, a number of people are professing concerns about the effects the big ships will have.

Alyssa Adams, who has lived in the Yorktown area since 1973, recently organized a group that hopes to get answers from county officials. The group met Monday at Yorktown Library to discuss the issues they have with the cruise ships docking so close to the Coleman Bridge near the waterfront. Their main concerns are possible threats to the historic area and the environment, as well as the scale of the ships in relation to the size of Historic Yorktown Village.

Princess Cruises will be bringing five daylong cruise stops to Yorktown and the Historic Triangle in 2024, the cruise liner announced earlier this year. Three stops will be on the Island Princess.
