Tenerife Ports promotes La Palma as a cruise destination after volcano declared officially over on 13 December 2021
Ports of Tenerife has launched an online promotional campaign for cruise lines.
This Port Authority manages 5 cruise ports located in 4 different islands, being one of them the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma located in the island affected by the eruption of the volcano from September last year and officially declared over on 13 December 2021 by the Spanish National Observatory (Instituto Geográfico Nacional).
In any case, the port activities were not affected at all by the volcano and cruise passengers kept visiting the island and enjoyed its beauty, as usual.
The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is really committed to cruise traffic in all ports and constantly invests in improving its facilities. For instance, new bollards are being placed in different ports as well as the improvement of some facilities for a better passenger experience.
Moreover, all ports managed by the Port Authority as well as the local companies operating in Tenerife Ports are following the sanitary protocols according to the required measures and implementing procedures to guarantee passenger’s safety and health.
In this line, the promotional campaign will include all ports managed by the PA, but with emphasis on the smaller ports in the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma as well as the port of Los Cristianos (Tenerife), which are mainly focused on luxury and expedition cruise lines, due to the size of the ships and the exclusivity of the destinations.
Statistics show that cruise lines keep having Tenerife Ports among their favourite destinations. For instance, La Gomera welcomed 87 cruise calls in 2021, 36 more than in 2019. On the other hand, El Hierro managed 33 cruise ships last year, three times the figures achieved in 2019. La Palma handled 90 calls in 2021, which is a bit less than in 2019, but reservations for 2022 increased notably as well as the number of cruise lines visiting the island.
It is expected to receive cruise ships from 23 different brands in 2022, which means that new cruise lines are interested in taking their passengers to enjoy the beauty of La Palma.
In this line, the online campaign to promote these islands as cruise destinations will emphasis in both loyal customers and new brands.
