Episode 5 and 6 Of Crystal’s ‘Culinary Journeys’ Video Series

A Culinary Journey with Crystal Cruises | Samoa

Crystal Cruises has released the latest episodes of its video series “Crystal Cruises Presents: A Culinary Journey Hosted by Jon Ashton,” this time exploring the creative iterations of Périgord black truffles in Perth, Australia and American Samoa.

While the truffles are most often associated with France and Italy, Western Australia is one of the world’s largest producers of the luxurious ingredient. In Episode 5, Chef Jon Ashton visits several Perth eateries to learn and gain inspiration from the various ways local chefs incorporate the truffles into their menus.

Back aboard Crystal Serenity, Chef Ashton and Alfred Napotnik – Chef de Cuisine of the ship’s Italian specialty restaurant Prego – collaborate to create a classic gnocchi and black truffle dish. The complete video of Perth’s coastal culinary offerings and the behind-the-galley creativity aboard the award-winning ship can now be viewed on the Crystal Insider blog and at Youtube.

During the award-winning ship’s visit to Pago Pago, Chef Ashton joined local food expert Paula Stevenson-McDonald for an in-depth glimpse into the culinary customs of the island, which are highlighted in the latest episode of “Crystal Cruises Presents: A Culinary Journey Hosted by Jon Ashton,” now available for viewing on the Crystal Insider blog.

In the video, viewers can follow along as Jon explores the various versions of sapa sui, Samoa’s take on the Chinese classic chop suey. Fresh coconut, curry, seafood and vegetables inspire a brand-new dish created for Silk aboard Crystal Serenity – lobster potsticker with coconut crepe.
