Join John Suchet to celebrate Beethoven’s birthday on a Saga’s Rhine cruise

Dutch Melody (Courtesy Saga)Classic FM broadcaster John Suchet joins Saga guests on a Rhine cruise celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, including an on-board concert and another at the world-famous Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

The author of the book Beethoven – the Man Revealed, John Suchet gives three music-related talks during the voyage on river ship Dutch Melody which departs on October 19, 2020.

The itinerary also includes a city tour of Bonn, featuring the museum at the house where Beethoven was born in 1770, with a wealth of original exhibits and 12 rooms providing a glimpse into the work and life of the composer.

The first two nights of the full-board cruise Celebrating 250 years of Beethoven are spent in Amsterdam and feature a concert at the world-renowned Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

There are visits to Utrecht, with its medieval heart, 112-metre high Domtoren tower and botanical gardens, and Arnhem, with the option to join a tour commemorating the Second World War battle.

Other stops along the Rhine include Cologne, with its stunning cathedral; Koblenz, which has a pretty riverside promenade; Oberwesel, best known for the production of Reisling and Dusseldorf, where modern, avant-garde architecture sits alongside the traditional appeal of the old town.

In Rüdesheim there is an opportunity to visit Siegfried’s Museum of Mechanical Music, a quirky collection of more than 300 automated musical instruments dating from the 18th century, based in a former noble court built in 1542.
