Dance to France: Live music and entertainment all the way on Spirit of Discovery’s four-night taster cruise

Dance to France on Saga’s new ship Spirit of Discovery, which has a choice of music and entertainment venues from The Club by Jools Holland, the Britannia Lounge and The Playhouse, a 420-seat theatre which is home to the ship’s resident performance company.

There’ll be fun all the way on this four-night taster cruise which departs on October 3, 2019 with live music for dancing, guest entertainers and colourful shows. Guests can meet in the South Cape Bar before dinner, enjoy world-class menus and get dancing!

After lively evenings, the sumptuous Aqua Spa, with floor-to-ceiling windows, offers pampering treats from massages to beauty treatments. There’s an infra-red hydrotherapy pool and outdoor pool or guests can curl up with a book in the Living Room – the heart of the ship for those who want to relax.

Spirit of Discovery visits three classic French ports – Cherbourg, Le Havre and St Malo – so guests can wander in each town, stop for coffee, indulge in a spot of shopping or explore the history of the ports during what will be the 80th anniversary of the Second World War.

Cherbourg is an attractive natural harbour with an art museum and lovely gardens.

Fortified against Britain by Louis XVI and the last port of call for the ill-fated Titanic it has a fascinating maritime heritage. Guests can take a walk across D-Day beaches, tour the moving museum in Arromanches and see the Mulberry harbour, an extraordinary artificial mooring that helped invading Allied forces in 1944.

Le Havre suffered much bomb damage during the Second World War but it has earned UNESCO World Heritage status for its sensitive post-war reconstruction, thanks to the modernist innovation of architect Auguste Perret. A modernist show home is open to visitors so guests can talk to the ship’s Explore Ashore team for directions.

Spirit of Discovery also sails in to St Malo where the ramparts offer stunning views of the Emerald Coast. The town’s cobbled alleys are lined with cafes and boutiques and there’s an impressive Gothic and Romanesque cathedral to discover. An optional tour of the enchanting medieval abbey Mont St Michel is also on the itinerary.
