The UK Shows: Cruise Lines at the Daily Mail Cruise Show – Cruise Lines at the Daily Telelgraph Travel Show
by Kevin Griffin
The Cruise Show season is with us in London yet again and here is this week’s report. The most interesting comparison is between this weekend’s Daily Mail Cruise Show and next weekend’s DailyTelegraph Travel Show, which features a Cruise showcase. And the most interesting finding is the lines or operators that are exhibiting at both shows.
This is limited to eight operators: APT Luxury River Cruises, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Noble Caledonia, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Saga Cruises, Star Clippers, Titan Travel and Viking Cruises. None of these lines operates a ship that can carry more than 1,000 guests.
It is interesting what this says about shows being hands-on places for smaller operators while the mass market lines now rely more on screens than stands to sell their wares.

The Daily Mail Cruise Show closed yesterday. There were plenty of exhibitors but many were non-cruise and there were still empty spaces.
The number of cruise lines with stands was twenty-one but only Norwegian Cruise Line was there from the mnajors. Obvious by their absence were Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, MSC Cruises, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, all of whom offer regualt UK departures, as well as local lines such as Cruise & Maritime and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.
Other than Norwegian, the exhibitors this year were pretty well made up of small ship, tall ship or luxury lines.

Eighteen cruise lines are expected to be hand in the Cruise showcase at next weekend’s Daily Telegraph Travel Show.
Again, no majors. The larger lines at this show will include Cunard Line and P&O Cruises, whereas the others will be mainly small ship, tall ship and expedition operators.
