Saga to Offer a 3-night city break in Vienna before joining a Danube river cruise to Budapest

The 150-passenger Filia Rheni IISaga guests can enjoy a three-night city break in Vienna to immerse themselves in music and culture before joining a river cruise along the beautiful Danube to Budapest.

From guests 4Q hotel in Vienna there’s a tour of the city plus an evening concert featuring works by Mozart and Johann Strauss.

After free time to visit museums, galleries and the famous Viennese cafes, guests join river cruise ship Filia Rheni ll to sail through the tranquil riverscapes of Austria, Germany, Slovakia and Hungary.

The spacious 150-passenger ship is exclusively chartered for Saga guests and has received Top Ship and two-rosette Good Food awards. Complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks are served with lunch and dinner.

The first call on the Vienna & the Blue Danube cruise is to Dürnstein, in the beautiful Wachau Valley, before a stop at Melk to visit the Benedictine Abbey.

Guests also spend a morning in Passau, at the meeting point of three rivers – the Danube, Inn and Ilz before discovering Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava.

Esztergom is perhaps the most beautiful of the cluster of small towns on the Danube Bend and an optional excursion takes guests to the artistic community of Szentendre.

Kalocsa is next on the itinerary, a picturesque town founded by Hungary’s first king, St Stephen, on the Great Hungarian Plain. The town is famous for its folk art and its Paprika Museum.

Filia Rheni II sails into Budapest for a full day and overnight stay so guests can discover Buda, the western part of the city, and Pest on the east bank which his home to the Hungarian Parliament buildings and Heroes’ Square.

In Budapest, guests can also opt for another city break – a two-night extension from £99 (includes breakfast) at the Danubius Grand Hotel Margitsziget (4Q) which adjoins a health spa resort in the heart of a romantic green park on Margit Island.
