Breaking News: Antarctica’s Ross Sea just declared Marine Protected Area

In breaking news, Antarctica’s Ross Sea has been declared a Marine Protected Area today, 28 Oct 2016. The decision was made in Hobart, Australia by CCAMLR (Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources), after years of campaigning by a number of different countries and lobby groups.

Heritage Expeditions’ owner and founder Rodney Russ, who pioneered expeditions to the Ross Sea over 25 years ago says ‘while we haven’t seen the full details of the agreement yet, the creation of the Ross Sea sanctuary has got to be good news for the wildlife of the Ross Sea and its ecosystem.’
