How Clean Is Your Cruise Ship? Sanondaf is urging cruise companies to make sure their cleaning regimes are up to scratch
In light of the spate of recent Norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships, disinfection and decontamination specialist Sanondaf is urging cruise companies to make sure their cleaning regimes are up to scratch.
Stuart White of Sanondaf UK said: “The reputational damage not to mention compensation claims for cruise lines can be enormous. Recent claims have run into the hundreds of thousands and there now many law firms specialising in holiday sickness claims. An estimated 1500 passengers were affected last year which is a small proportion of the 20m cruise passengers overall but a norovirus outbreak can completely ruin your holiday as you need to be isolated in your cabin for three days.”
“This is one case where prevention is definitely better than cure. Every cruise line wants its passengers to have a safe, healthy and enjoyable holiday. Traditional cleaning methods using cleaning chemicals does not go far enough and cannot remove air-borne viruses.”
Sanondaf uses a special formulation of hydrogen peroxide and silver which is guaranteed to kill 99.99% of all hazardous viruses, bacteria, fungi or any microorganism. The solution is dispensed as a vapour from our own fogging machines or using our electrostatic spray system. The key advantages of this method of cleaning is that it can reach inaccessible areas and also disinfect the air; something manual cleaning cannot do.
“Cruise lines should consider regular treatments, perhaps on change over days, to ensure that cabins and public areas are 100% free of viruses and other infections for new passengers joining the ship,” concluded White.
