Celebrate 400-year legacy of Shakespeare’s work on Saga Pearl II

The Saga Pearl II (Dec. 2013, photo Ivan T. at Wikipedia)Sail on Saga Pearl II to celebrate the life and work of William Shakespeare, the playwright whose work is considered the greatest in the history of English literature.

To mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death in 1616, a theatre company will be on board the Cities of the Baltic cruise to stage adapted Shakespeare productions and workshops, a masterclass and a gala event featuring performances by the theatre players and passengers.

Guests on the 15-night sailing on May 6, 2016 will also be able to dine like the playwright with Saga Pearl II’s executive chef preparing historic menus during this Shakespeare-themed fest.

Appropriately, Saga Pearl II will sail away from Dover and the White Cliffs, where Shakespeare Cliff takes its name from the Bard’s reference in the play King Lear.

The theatre company will also explore an ocean theme through works including The Tempest and Twelfth Night while workshops will include sonnet-based studies, exploring the Elizabethan language and even some stage combat!

Saga Pearl II’s cruise itinerary includes sailing to IJmuiden for Amsterdam and through the Kiel Canal. The ship will moor overnight in Stockholm before sailing to Helsinki, followed by a two-night stay in St Petersburg. Hundested, in Denmark, and Gothenberg, in Sweden, complete the ports of call.

15 nights from £3269, departing  Dover on May 6, 2016. Price includes UK travel package to and from Dover, all meals and entertainment, choice of table wines at lunch and dinner, afternoon tea, 24-hour room service, welcome cocktail party, unlimited tea and coffee in selected venues, free Wi-Fi internet, all on-board gratuities, all port taxes and visas, porterage, free shuttle bus to nearest town centre (whenever possible and when the ship is berthed more than 500 yards away), optional travel insurance and additional cancellation rights, or a discount of £53 if passenger has own insurance.
