AntiBac Coating to offer solution to significantly reduce Norovirus/ Sickness Bugs on Cruise Ships
One of the first thoughts that springs to mind when considering going on a cruise is visiting new destinations, but also “Will I get a Sickness Bug”.
AntiBac coating Ltd, a UK based company has been studying communicable Infections now for many years, along with Southampton University and other World Renowned Universities.
Copper Metal is the only solid surface to be registered and accepted as an antimicrobial which has proven effectiveness to destroy all microbes including Norovirus in minutes. This Sickness Bug sits on any surface for hours on end waiting for transfer by touch. Then in turn the people who have touched that surface will be susceptible to the Sickness Bug and in turn pass it onto another common touched surface or their fellow passengers when the make contact to contact.
AntiBac Coating Ltd and its US partner have a new antimicrobial coating that can be retro fitted to any existing surface, whether that is metal, plastic glass or wood.
The Coating constantly inactivates any virus/bacteria without further intervention, and comes with a 10 year guarantee service life, at a fraction of the price of 100% Copper.
In recent hospital trials in the UK, replacing just 6 items with solid copper, that are frequently touched, there was a reduction of up to 95% few micro-organisms that can reduce serious illness.
AntiBac Coating were approached by Lloyds Register of Shipping two years ago, to look at 100% Copper metal to change fixtures and fittings, touch surfaces in Cruise Ships.
The conclusion was that 100% copper metal would add a lot of weight (fuel) and be expensive for retro fit out, as all the touch surfaces would have to be re-manufactured.
Now AntiBac Coating has the same benefit with No significant weight gain and a fraction of the cost of Copper (the only antimicrobial solid touch surface in the world), with the benefit of using the existing touch surfaces saving the operator an expensive refit. The AntiBac Coating also comes in a range of colours.
The AntiBac Coating is in a spray format that comes with multiple Bio testing, from EMRSA 16 to Influenza, Norovirus being one of the hardest strains to eradicate but only last minutes on the AntiBac Coating. The tests also proved positive for wear and tear.
This brand new concept has been EPA, USA approved as an Antimicrobial. The only other solid surface antimicrobial to be registered is Copper or Copper Alloys, containing at least 60% Copper.
